MR ROOFING and GTR: "Millennials are now buying homes or replacing roofs, and they are used to (using) technology."

MR Roofing, a roofing and solar company based in San Francisco, has been a GTR customer almost since the day they opened their doors. Over the years, they’ve seen how the app has evolved from being solely a referral tool to a full customer experience and closing tool.

We spoke with Carlos Rodriguez, owner and president of MR Roofing, to learn about the changes his company has experienced over the past five years with GTR. More than just a customer, Carlos is a strong advocate for GTR, helping other companies systematize their referral processes and engage their customers through a branded app.

The Referral Challenge and Solution
Carlos' business has always relied on referrals, with about 60% of their projects coming from referrals or repeat customers. However, the process used to be disorganized: “It wasn’t very organized and easy to keep it consistent. We would have different campaigns, and it would be cumbersome to track and difficult to keep data on spreadsheets! ”

When Jamey Vumback introduced the GTR platform, Carlos immediately saw its value: “When he mentioned what he was doing, it made a lot of sense for us, and that’s why we decided to go ahead and start using GTR. I’ve been around since it first started, and I’ve seen the evolution of it, and I’m definitely happy because it’s easy; it simplifies a lot of processes.”

Using Technology to Stay Ahead
Carlos emphasized that technology plays a significant role in preparing his company for the future: “For a year we have been testing different ways to present the project virtually to customers, and the GTR App expedites the process. Regarding technology, if we’re not keeping up with the way people are buying, you can fade away pretty easily. Also, millennials are now buying homes or replacing roofs, and they are used to technology.”

Referrals as a Key Component in Both Roofing and Solar
When comparing roofing and solar customers, Carlos noted they exhibit similar behaviors regarding referrals: “With both customers, we explain that this is one way you can help pay the investment you made in the roof or the solar installation. We’ve had a few customers that have earned thousands of dollars because they referred so many times! ”
